This appears to be an internal document…well, was an internal document…that was leaked to the public. I’ll just jump right in. The pricing breakdown for the Nexus One is as follows:
- Nexus One with 2 year contract: $180
- Nexus One unlocked with no contract: $530
The inside connection who sent this info to Gizmodo (bless his heart!) is reporting that if you want to purchase the phone at the subsidized rate, you can’t keep your current plan. Although, if you do the math, the 2 yr plan and subsidized rate doesn’t save money at the end of the 2 years. A little while back I was conducting some research for a friend and I discovered something interesting. If you are on the “Even More Plus” plan, you will still save loads of $$ in the long run1. How? Well, when you pay less every month for your plan, you actually SAVE money in the 2 years you would have been in contract, even when you pay full price for the phone. Crazy huh?
So I ask you this: is paying the full price really all that big of a deal? I myself use more than 500 minutes in a calling period and if you expect the subsidized price you will be required to use the “Even More Individual 500″ plan. What is the thinking behind this? Is Google perhaps driving people to pay the unsubsidized price? Or is this the only way Tmo would subsidize the phone. Who knows, we have to remember, this is a leaked image and although it appears to be legit a lot can change in 7 days! You will be able to Buy your Nexus one, limit 5 per Google account, at www.google.com/phone
Keep an eye out, more as this develops!

You’ve read everything there is about the Google Phone (aka Nexus One). You’ve seen the spec sheet, the countless random pictures and all the videos. You’ve been perusing the web, waiting to hear the latest news. Alas! Now, there is a light at the end of this tunnel!
An internal document sent through the inner workings of T-Mobile has revealed a “New Android Device.” The Nexus One will be launched and sold by Google with support from T-Mobile. The release is on January 5th @ 9am. Google and HTC will feild any technical support calls while T-mobile will provide support for billing, features and etc. There has yet to be official word on whether or not the device is invite only and/or what the price will be, either way. Keep an eye out! As soon as I know, you will know!

The guys over at ModMyMoto were finally able to find an exploit and gain root access for the Motorola Cliq. “TheDude” A modder for Android, has provided instructions for how to root your Cliq here. He says they are planning on building custom ROMS around Android 1.5 and potentially 2.1. If your a Cliq owner, this should be music to your ears! Motorola has yet to make any official statement regarding whether or not the Cliq will be updated to 2.x. A bummer for those who went out and bought one on the first day. Like the Behold 2 the Cliq is a decent phone but let’s face it, until 2.x comes…it’s outdated. Stayed tuned, the moment I learn more about this, you will know!

Recently Ralph De La Vega, Chief Executive of AT&T Mobility, asked iPhone users to limit data usage. After this the web exploded with anger from customers over the fact that their “unlimited” data usage was being limited. Soon after, all this drama was posted on Fake Steve. It’s called “Operation Chokehold.” Simply put, on December 18th @ 12PM pacific standard time, everyone participating in the operation is to open their most data intensive app and run it for one hour in an attempt to bring down the network. Why? Because AT&T’s network, which by the way is rated #4 (out of 4) in customer satisfaction, is a serious point of frustration. I can’t figure out why AT&T would ask their customers to stop doing something they pay for! As I kept reading about this, I stumbled across an email, it was sent to the webmaster of fakesteve.net …
This fake steve business is too much today. Bringing down the data network MIGHT effect voice in a way none of you anticipates. People who don’t understand “fake steve” and who think this is more than a joke MIGHT just try to follow your idea. I don’t care who you are or how funny you think this is. My wife is quadriplegic. My ATT cell phone is my only phone. I don’t like everything they do and say, but when you hurt fellow customers, you are screwing around. If we have an emergency and you do hurt the network so we can’t reach 911, I will hire lawyers to bring YOU to YOUR knees and I will contact the FBI /Homeland Security. I hope they have already been notified. I understand that ATT needs to upgrade and should not disparage customers, but this little joke of yours might do real harm to innocent people. . . and all to fulfill your revenge motive for some stupid comment made by ATT. Don’t fight stupid with stupid. If anyone gets cut off from emergency services during this time on Friday, I will socially support whatever criminal charges are brought against YOU by the Justice Department. You will have made more than a statement, you will have committed an act of terrorism! Let your “fake steve” know.
Wow…that guy is not happy. I understand his frustration, but did he take it a little too far? Read here for the response from “Fake Steve.” AT&T has also weighed in on the matter. Here is their response.
“We understand that fakesteve.net is primarily a satirical forum, but there is nothing amusing about advocating that customers attempt to deliberately degrade service on a network that provides critical communications services for more than 80 million customers. We know that the vast majority of customers will see this action for what it is: an irresponsible and pointless scheme to draw attention to a blog.”
So there you have it. Tempers are flaring on both sides; who’s right? There are valid points coming from both parties. In reality, though, AT&T needs to take the incredible profit they have made and reinvest that money into building their network! On the other hand, was this the right way to get their attention? If this plan really works, it has the potential to impact more than just AT&T’s data network and could effect many people in critical ways. I am not advocating for this act, but something really needs to change on the AT&T side. The iPhone is a great device, and if your going to have a great device, shouldn’t you have a great network to compliment it? What are your thoughts?

Hmm this is interesting. “Found these in our logs-Boy Genius” This brief sentence, along with this picture were found in the logs of BGR. Notice the beginning of the second and third line. Interesting indeed! Of course, iPhone users love what 3.0 has brought, they are ready for an update! There is supposed to be a sneak peak event of 4.0 in March, followed by a beta test period for developers, then the release in June or July. Does this picture mean anything? It may or may not, keep your eyes peeled though, 3.1.3 could be dropping anytime.

Well, today it came! I recently posted about winning a Samsung Behold II from here, and after 23 days of waiting it came. I have posted this pic as proof! There is still 11 days left to win, so head over and try your luck!

A couple of weeks ago I was standing next to a friend and telling him about “Better Home” He was about to purchase the app when Google Checkout asked for his credit card. Well, he didn’t buy the app, and still hasn’t gotten around to it. There are certain restrictions to the current method of purchasing from our Android Market. Being able to pay for it on your monthly bill is more convenient, and does not immediately effect your bank account.
A little more then a month ago, CTO Cole Brodman, at the Open Mobile Summit in San Fransisco, promised carrier billing would be coming soon. Tmo hopes this will bring more “on the go” app purchases. And…it will, “yeah, just bill me for that” Quick and easy, and like the friend I mentioned above, he would have bought “Better Home” if he could have been billed. Well it’s here! Carrier Billing began rolling out on December 9th and will conclude December 30th. This is not your normal “OTA” update. The only way you will know you have it is by: Opening Settings –>Applications–>Manage Applications–>Market. You should have “Version 1660″ or greater. So there you have it, I really hope this brings the increase Tmo is looking for. More purchases overall, should bring better apps to our growing market. What do you think? Sound off below!

Do you have Google Voice? If you do, then you know the voicemail transcriptions are laughable at best. They often don’t reflect the message your caller left! Well our friends at Google know this, and have come up with a solution. Previously the only way Google could tell you didn’t like the transcription was by clicking “Transcription Useful? Yes or No. Now if you click the “X”, you have the option to share the voicemail with Google so they can help make it better. I know what your thinking “I don’t want Google listening to my voicemails!” But hey, i’m all for improvements and I will do what I can to further the process! Will you? Let me know what you think!

It’s coming! T-Mobile is approximately 22 days away from having the fastest 3G network, and I could not be more excited! They have been on a raging campaign to increase 3G coverage and are on a roll! This ambitious plan has already brought 3G coverage to 180 million people and will continue to climb to more 200 million by years end. In addition, if that’s not enough, Tmo is almost immediately upgrading to HSPA 7.2. The current data speed is capped at 1.8 Mbps I consistently hit about 650 Kbps using speedtest. The upgraded network will allow for 7.2 Mbps!
Androidandme reached out for more information regarding the launch. The response they received said, as planned HSPA 7.2 will be launching by the end of 2009. So this is no longer speculation people, it’s happening! I laugh cause while AT&T and Verizon are at each others throats, Tmo is silently scaling the walls and ready for invasion haha this is epic…Check out androidandme for the official statment from Tmo and for supported devices.
